Case Study 1

1. How well is IT supporting the business goals of BellSouth? Explain.

- The IT supports the business goals of BellSouth by following the money, in other words at the corporate level, their revenue strategy is to broadband- enable the customers in the wireline business and get into long distance. It gave new subscribers the ability to use BellSouth's website to order and even self-install the software they would need to get up and running on the new ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)"FastAccess" high-speed internet service.

2. Is BellSouth's technology transfer map a good way to determine IT investment priorities? Why or Why not?

- Yes, because the road map identifies and prioritizes "Leverageable" systems-defined as those that the business need to run and enhance their revenue generating operation, and therefore for highest priority for IT development."Nonleverageable" systems, by contrast, are more traditional "legacy" systems earmarked for retirement in the near future.

3. What else could Bell-South do to guarantee the strategic business value of potential IT investment projects? visit their website for ideas. Defend your proposals.

- The Bell-South should Raise IT up to a senior level so they can understand the business impact of their technologies.
